SAINT LUKE

October18 Saint Luke was born at Antioch, Syria. He was a Gentile by birth, and a Physician by profession. He was also a Painter, and there is a tradition that he painted the original painting of the Black Madonna of Czestochowa, on a cypress table top from the home of Our Lady.

He was one of the early converts to Christianity, and became a travelling companion of Saint Paul, accompanying him on his second and third mission journeys.

Saint Luke was the author of the third of the four Gospels, which starts with the birth of John the Baptist and ends at Christ's Ascension, and the Acts of the Apostles, which starts with the 40 days Christ spent on earth following his Death and Resurrection, covers the works of the Apostles, and ends with Saint Paul preaching at Rome.
