All Souls Day
This feastday commemorates all the Faithful Departed. At the special Mass of this day, dark robes and emblems of mourning are worn to indicate the Church's sympathy for her children who are being purified through the sufferings of Purgatory. The reason for this Feast day is that we believe that all who die in a state of venial sin, are sent to Purgatory for a time to have their souls purified to the extent that they can stand worthily in front of the Holy Trinity and the Blessed Virgin Mary and the saints. Unfortunately there are some who have been deluded by Satan into believing that Hell and Purgatory do not exist. Maccabees has a direct reference to Purgatory "It is a holy and a wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be loosed from their sins" If the soul of a dead person is in hell, there is no USE praying for it, because hell is forever. If the soul of a dead person is in heaven there is no NEED to pray for it, because it has already been loosed from its sins. So that only leaves a place or state which we call Purgatory, as a place where it is sensible to pray for that soul, and so relieve its time in Purgatory. PrayerOur Lord told St. Gertrude the Great that the
following prayer would release 1000 souls from Purgatory each time it is said. "My intentions for this prayer are for the release of Holy Souls from Purgatory" Eternal Father, I offer thee the Most Precious Blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the whole world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family.Amen. |
