Guardian Angels

The Angels are pure spirits, endowed with intelligence, will power and beauty.

They serve as God's messengers, for example the Archangel Gabriel at the Annunciation, passing on God's request that Mary accept the position as the Mother of His only-begtten Son; And again advising Mary that her cousin Elizabeth who was thought to be barren, had conceived a son, and was in her sixth month; and again it was Gabriel who told Zechariah that his elderly wife would conceive and bear a son who was to be named John.

Through faith we believe that everyone of us has his/her own Guardian Angel, who stays with us throughout our whole life, defending us against the snares of the devil, and guiding and advising us.

We should make it part of our daily prayers to at least speak to our Guardian Angel, and listen to him/her.

Guardian angels also have other types of appointment. At Fatima the angel who appeared to the three children to prepare them for the visits of Our Lady, told them that he was the Angel of Peace.

Sister Agnes Sasagawa at Akita, Japan, several times saw her own Guardian angel, and spoke to her, and listened to her even though she was completely deaf at the time, and on one occasion she also saw all the Guardian angels of her fellow Nuns in the chapel.

At Garabandal in Spain, the angel who appeared to the children identified himself as the Archangel Michael.

And it was the Guardian angel of Sister (now Saint) Catherine Laboure, who woke her up one night and led her to the Chapel where Our Lady was waiting for her.

A Prayer To My Guardian Angel

Angel of God my guardian dear,
to whom God's love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
