Our Lady of the Rosary

On 7th. October 1571 the Christian forces, under Don Juan of Austria, achieved a remarkable sea victory over the Turkish Muslims.

See "The Battle of Lepanto"

The victory was credited to the multitudes praying the Most Holy Rosary, as Pope Pius V had requested them.

He instituted a special Feastday in honour of that victory, at first called "Our Lady of Victories".

The next Pope changed the name of the Feastday to that "of the Rosary", and in 1961 the name was again changed to "Our Lady of the Rosary", changing the emphasis from the prayer of the Rosary, to the person of Our Lady.
